The Sussex Heart Charity supports equipment, services and projects that improve cardiac care and patient outcomes across Sussex.

We know that NHS projects can vary enormously in size and complexity, so our funding process is designed to be proportionate to the request. Choose the option below that best matches your request.

For larger projects, you do not need to have completed every NHS approval before approaching us. Where we are interested in supporting a proposal, we will work with you and relevant NHS or organisational colleagues to understand what approvals and next steps are required.

Small Funding Requests

Up to £5,000

For straightforward equipment, resources and smaller projects that will provide an additional benefit to cardiac patients or services in Sussex.

Before you apply

The Sussex Heart Charity exists to improve the lives and care of cardiac patients across Sussex. All funding requests must therefore demonstrate a clear charitable benefit to cardiac patients.

  • There must be a clear benefit to cardiac patients. Requests should explain what difference the funding is expected to make to cardiac care, treatment, rehabilitation, patient experience or outcomes. Administrative, digital, organisational or professional development proposals will only be considered where the applicant can demonstrate a clear and proportionate benefit to cardiac patients.
  • NHS or organisational funding routes should normally have been considered. You do not need to have completed every internal approval before approaching us, particularly for larger or more complex projects.
  • We do not normally fund routine NHS expenditure or like-for-like replacement of existing equipment. Replacement or upgraded equipment may be considered where there is a clear additional benefit to patients or services.
  • We do not normally provide retrospective funding. Please do not place an order, enter into a contract or make a financial commitment before funding has been confirmed in writing.
  • Ongoing costs and responsibilities must be considered. Where applicable, appropriate arrangements will need to be in place for maintenance, servicing, consumables, licences, staffing or other continuing costs.
  • NHS or organisational approval may still be required. Approval from Sussex Heart Charity does not replace any procurement, financial, clinical, digital, estates or other governance requirements that apply to the project.
  • Funding is normally expected to be used within six months of an award. If NHS approvals, procurement or other circumstances cause delays, please contact us before the award expires. We may agree an extension where appropriate.
  • All funding decisions are discretionary. Requests are considered on their individual merits and are subject to our charitable objectives, priorities and available funds.

Please note: For projects requiring NHS or organisational approval, Sussex Heart Charity may initially approve funding in principle. This means we support the charitable case for the project, but funding will not be released until the necessary approvals and arrangements are in place.
