It is the Sussex Heart Charity’s mission is to improve the quality of cardiac care in Sussex. One way we do this is to offer educational bursaries to NHS cardiac staff to support their professional development. This funding gives financial assistance to staff who want to attend courses and conferences to enhance their skills, knowledge and experience.
Introduction
Why are educational bursaries important?
Continuous professional development (CPD) is mandatory for all NHS staff to keep skills up to date and to ensure safe practice. The SHC bursaries are designed to complement this NHS training by offering staff the opportunity to enhance their learning and development by attending supplementary courses or conferences.
The training and education of healthcare professionals is an important on-going process. It not only benefits the personal and professional development of staff but also has a positive long-term impact for patients by ensuring the quality of cardiac healthcare in Sussex continues to improve and develop.
Attending conferences allows staff to:
- Learn about new research, trends, breakthroughs and innovations
- Keep up to date with technologies, techniques and practices
- Network with colleagues and industry leaders – develop links to promote better care and foster collaborations
- Compare care and pathways with other NHS trusts – new knowledge can be integrated into current practises
- Gain insights of best practise to enhance efficiency
Attending courses allows staff to:
- Enhance and broaden skills and knowledge to maximise learning
- Gain specialist knowledge
- Share knowledge with others in their team
- Implement changes in workplace using gained knowledge
