Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the Cardiac Surgery School at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. It’s an event organised by staff for patients who are preparing for heart surgery. It features presentations from a former surgical patient and all the wonderful teams that patients will meet on their surgery and recovery journey (such as pre-assessment, anaesthetists, nurses and cardiac rehabilitation).
The presentations give patients practical information and advice and it must be very reassuring and helpful for patients to learn about what they can expect on their cardiac care journey and to meet the teams who will be part of their care.
Everyone’s journey is different, but the Surgery School teams reassure patients that they will not be alone and will be taken care of every step of the way.

It’s such a fantastic event, and we are delighted to be a part of it and to have the chance to chat to patients and staff. It was also lovely to chat to Pete, who had heart surgery last year and was talking about his experience at the event. Pete had nothing but praise for the staff and it was a pleasure to hear his story.
Thanks to Angela and Charlotte who came along as part of the SHC team.
We are already looking forward to the next event.
