Everyone at the Sussex Heart Charity was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Angela Brinkhurst on Sunday 12th October. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her husband Paul and their family.
Angela was a long-standing friend and supporter of the Sussex Heart Charity, serving for many years as a volunteer Trustee. Her passion for helping others shone through in everything she did. She dedicated so much of her time and energy to the charity, as well as to many other local causes that were privileged to benefit from her kindness, enthusiasm and wisdom. She truly had a way of brightening any room she walked into.
Former SHC Trustee Jason shared the following tribute:
“I learned today of the sad news that friend and former Sussex Heart Charity (SHC) volunteer trustee Angela Brinkhurst passed away Sunday 12th October at St Peter & St James Hospice in Chailey.
At such a time, my thoughts and deepest condolences are with husband Paul and immediate family.
Angela was the most enthusiastic — a leading light at Lewes FC and the Cliffe Bonfire Society — a passionate advocate of the Sussex Heart Charity and a dedicated Trustee for many years, before ill health led her to step back from the SHC Board in 2024.
In 2017 Angela raised funds to purchase a defibrillator for the community she held so dear, in memory of her daughter Alice. In fact, her fundraising was so successful that a second defibrillator was bought and installed at Lewes Football Club too. Angela did all this by getting directly involved — organising quiz nights, baking cakes, and rallying support with husband Paul by her side — always giving her all to every cause she cherished.
Even after stepping down from the Board, Angela remained a great supporter. When SHC was nominated for the King’s Award in 2023, Angela offered her encouragement throughout the process. I last saw her at a quiz night earlier this year — still organising, still fundraising, still baking — with her trademark humour shining through, smiling and laughing as ever. RIP, much love dear Angela — I will miss you.”
Angela’s generosity extended well beyond her words and actions — she could bake for England and on more than one occasion she did just that for the Sussex Heart Charity. Her cakes became as much a part of our events as her warmth and incredible passion.
We will always be grateful for the time and energy Angela shared with us and with so many across Sussex. She will be greatly missed but her compassion and positivity will be long remembered.
