A huge thank you to Katie, who has gone above and beyond to raise funds for the SHC, taking on not one, but two very different fundraising challenges.
Last weekend, Katie completed the South Coast Ultra Challenge, trekking an incredible 100km from Polegate, over the Seven Sisters, along the Sussex coast and then inland, before crossing the finish line at Arundel Football Club.
The 100km challenge was a huge test of endurance, determination and resilience. Katie completed the course in just over 21 hours – what a fantastic achievement!
But Katie didn’t stop there. While training for the ultra-marathon, Katie also spent her evenings crocheting keyrings, toys, flowers and blankets to sell to her colleagues at UK Power Networks. The craft sale raised an amazing £191.

“Colleagues loved my crochet and were incredibly generous with their donations, so I made more than expected and I’m still receiving donations now. I’m grateful for every one of them.” – Katie
Katie put an incredible amount of time, energy and dedication into her fundraising. And what a difference all that hard work and effort has made – all together, Katie has raised an incredible total of nearly £600!
A personal reason for fundraising
Katie chose to fundraise for the SHC as a way of thanking the amazing NHS staff from the Royal Sussex County Hospital cardiac unit and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, who cared for her dad after he suffered a heart attack earlier this year.
Wanting to give something back and show her appreciation for the care he received, Katie decided to raise money to support the SHC.

“I wanted to do something positive after my dad’s heart attack and the incredible care he received. The emergency services and cardiology teams were amazing, and I had to do something to say thank you. Since then, my dad has made a great recovery.
The 100k ultra challenge was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but knowing every step helped a brilliant cause kept me going.
The Sussex Heart Charity changes lives and supports families through some of their most difficult moments, so it meant a lot to support their work” – Katie
Katie’s fundraising is a wonderful example of how a difficult and frightening experience can inspire someone to make a positive difference for others.
We’re so pleased to hear that Katie’s dad has made a great recovery and is doing well.
Thank You Katie!
We are incredibly grateful to Katie for choosing to support the SHC and for putting so much effort into her fundraising. Taking on a 100km challenge is an amazing achievement in itself, but to combine it with a month of making and selling handmade crochet items makes her fundraising effort even more special.
We’d also like to thank everyone who donated to and supported Katie’s fundraisers as well as Katie’s employer, UK Power Networks, who are making a matched donation to support her challenge.
Every donation will make a real difference, helping us to continue supporting cardiac care, patients and local communities across Sussex.
Thank you, Katie – you are amazing! ❤️
