Is my group eligible for a Rescue Ready session?

The following groups will be considered:

  • Beneficiaries of the SHC’s AED Scheme: Those who received either a Cardiac Science G3 or G5 AED.
  • Churches and Places of Worship: Including church groups and other religious institutions.
  • Community Groups: Any local community organisation.
  • Sports and Activities Clubs: Groups focused on sports or other physical activities.
  • Local Societies and Clubs: Various local interest groups.
  • Resident Associations: Organisations representing local residents.

Your group must Be a non-profit organisation, CIC, social enterprise, or charity.

Your group must have a suitable venue – or be prepared to travel to the Pulse Training centre. (Continue reading the FAQs for further details on venues).

Rescue Ready is a new initiative and as such we are currently aiming it at smaller local community groups and clubs, who are lesser supported and less established.  Larger national or regional groups (such as the Women’s Institute, Brownies, Scouts etc) are currently not eligible.

How do I apply for a Rescue Ready session?

You can apply via our online application form:

https://www.sussexheartcharity.org/rescue-ready-application-form/

If you have any issues with the application form – please contact us.

Please note:

Acceptance is not guaranteed – all applications are reviewed to determine eligibility based on our criteria and the information you have provided on the application form.  Please provide as much detail as possible on the form.

How many people can attend a session?

Each session has 10 – 14 spaces available.

A minimum of 10 people is required per session.

The maximum number of attendees is 14. This limit is to ensure the trainer can deliver the session efficiently and safely.

If you think your group will have too many or not enough attendees, please continue reading the FAQs for your options.

Can I apply for a session before I have a confirmed list of attendees?

Yes – if you are confident that you can get 10 – 14 attendees you can submit an application form.  You do not need to have the final names/numbers confirmed before applying.

If your application is approved, you can then book your slot once you know you have enough attendees to fill a session.

What happens if we have more than fourteen attendees – can we book more than one session?

Each group can book one session only.

For larger groups, we would encourage members to pass on the knowledge they learn at a session to other group members. We may be able to offer you a further session in the future – please contact us to discuss.

For groups (such as parish councils) who are sourcing attendees from their wider community or for groups such as community centres (who are the base for a collection of groups) please contact the SHC to discuss the possibility of booking more than one session.

What happens if we don’t have enough attendees to fill a session?

If you don’t have enough people to fill a session, there are a few options:

  1. You can organise sharing a session with another eligible group from your community, or you can invite other members of your community (this can include your friends and family) to join your session – this should all be arranged by you independently and a session can be booked once you have enough attendees.
  2. You are willing to share a session with another group and are flexible with when and where the session is held. The SHC may be able to combine groups with similar circumstances but there is no guarantee.
  3. You are willing to pay the shortfall.  If the minimum number of attendees is not met, you or your group will be responsible for covering the shortfall at a rate of £20 per missing participant.

Please note: Rescue Ready is a community project we would always encourage you to find members of your community to join your session, rather than having an undersubscribed session.

What requirements are required for a venue?

Your venue must:

  • Have adequate floor space, chairs etc.
  • Be a public building – with a private space reserved only for the training.
  • Comply with health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Be available to the Pulse trainer for set up before the start of the session.

Please note:

The venue cannot be a residential house, flat etc.

Can we still apply if we don’t have a suitable venue?

Yes – the training can be done at the Pulse training centre.

(You would need to organise your own transportation)

How do we know if we’ve been successful with our application?

Successful applicants will be notified by the SHC via email.

We aim to contact you within 14 working days.

How do we book a session?

All sessions must be booked online via the TryBooking website.  This is a secure booking platform.

Once your application has been successful, we will send you email confirmation. This email will have details of how to book a slot – and will include a link that will take you to the TryBooking booking page. On this page you will be able to select a session from the available scheduled slots.

You do not need to provide a final list of names / numbers when booking a session – with your booking you have secured the slot for up to 14 people. On the day of the session, Pulse will take a register of attendees, no info needs to be submitted beforehand.

When are the sessions?

The scheduled sessions are not suitable for my group – can we book an alternative date?

Please note: Alternative dates or times cannot be guaranteed and are subject to the availability of the Pulse trainers.

  • CPR techniques
  • Safe and effective use of AEDs (defibrillators)

Please refer the ‘Why First Aid is important’ section on the SHC website to see why this will benefit you and your community.

Do we get a first aid certificate?

Every attendee will receive a participation certificate.

After your session we will confirm the names of the attendees, and the certificates will be posted out to you.

Please note: Rescue Ready is designed to boost confidence and provide essential lifesaving skills – no formal or accredited qualifications will be awarded, and it does not qualify you as a workplace first aider.
