The Brighton cardiac rehabilitation team has recently restarted its education talks, providing patients with valuable information, advice and support alongside their regular exercise classes.
As part of the programme, we’re delighted that our Rescue Ready sessions are now a regular feature, giving patients and their partners the opportunity to learn essential, life-saving CPR and defibrillator (AED) skills.
Delivered by expert trainers from our partners at Pulse South Coast, the sessions are designed to build knowledge, confidence and the skills needed to respond in an emergency.
Yesterday’s session was led by Sally, who did a fantastic job of sharing her knowledge and creating a welcoming space for everyone to learn and practice these important skills.

What do the Rescue Ready sessions cover?
The practical and informative sessions cover a range of important topics, including:
- Recognising a cardiac arrest: Understanding the signs and symptoms of a cardiac arrest and the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack.
- Knowing what to do: Learning how to respond when someone experiences a cardiac arrest and what steps to take while waiting for emergency help to arrive.
- Understanding the ‘first four minutes’: Discovering why early CPR and defibrillation are so important and how they can significantly improve someone’s chances of survival.
- Practical CPR training: Giving everyone the opportunity to learn and practise this vital life-saving skill.
- Using an AED: Understanding how an automated external defibrillator works, with a practical demonstration to show how it can be used during a cardiac arrest.
Building confidence and peace of mind
For people living with a heart condition or recovering from a cardiac event, it’s natural to have concerns about the future and want to feel prepared for unexpected situations.
That’s why these sessions are particularly valuable for cardiac rehabilitation patients and their partners. As well as providing practical skills, they offer reassurance, confidence and peace of mind, helping participants feel better equipped to respond if someone experiences a cardiac arrest.
Knowing what to do in those crucial first moments could make all the difference.
Working together with Pulse to make our communities Rescue Ready
A huge thank you to Sally for delivering such a valuable and empowering session, and to the team at Pulse for their continued support of our Rescue Ready project.
We’re incredibly proud to fund Rescue Ready and support the Brighton cardiac rehabilitation team in bringing this important training to patients. It’s fantastic to see the sessions now established as part of the cardiac rehabilitation programme, helping more people gain the confidence and skills to potentially save a life.
