Last week we had the pleasure of attending the opening ceremony of the Douglas Chamberlain Education Centre.
The Level 11 meeting and teaching suite in the Louisa Martindale Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) has been officially renamed to honour and commemorate the lifetime achievements of Prof. Douglas Chamberlain, who sadly passed away last year.

Douglas was a pioneering cardiologist whose vision transformed cardiac care, not only in Sussex, but across the UK and beyond. He contributed so much to emergency pre-hospital patient care – creating the UKs first paramedic course and championing the need for early defibrillation.
During his time at the RSCH, he was the driving force behind the development of many cardiac services in Sussex. The patient-led donations that followed his work evolved into what is now the Sussex Heart Charity, and we are proud to have Douglas as our founder.

The Education Centre serves as a venue for clinical education and training, and naming it after Professor Chamberlain, honours his legacy for teaching and mentoring and will inspire future generations.
The event featured talks from Dr Andy Heeps, the Chief Executive of UHSussex, Professor Rob Galloway and Douglas’s family.
It was an honour to be part of such a lovely occasion and hear stories about Douglas’s remarkable work and life.
