Grantee Information & Application Forms

Application forms are available at the bottom of this page. Please review the information below carefully before submitting your application.

It is the Sussex Heart Charity’s mission to improve, support and fund cardiac healthcare in Sussex. We are therefore proud to offer educational bursaries to Sussex based NHS cardiac staff to support their professional development.

Our grants are designed to complement NHS mandatory training and offer financial assistance to staff who want to attend supplementary courses and conferences.

We are delighted to give staff the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge and experience. We know this will benefit their personal and professional development and help ensure the highest quality of care for patients.

The following is an introductory overview to our bursary project:

  • Each grantee has an individual bursary allowance of £500 per financial year. You can use this funding for multiple applications until the £500 limit has been reached.
  • The grants are intended to support individual professional development. Therefore, you cannot share your bursary allowance with other grantees. Each grantee must submit their own application and claim only for their own individual expenses.
  • Alternative funding sources must always be explored before applying for a SHC bursary (for example, are there any options available on IRIS).
  • Line manager approval is required before you can apply for a bursary. Application forms should only be submitted once you have the sign off from your line manager.
  • Retrospective applications will not be considered. Applications need to be submitted BEFORE the event – and with enough time for the application to be processed.
  • The SHC is not able to provide funding for any event that falls under the statutory responsibilities of your local NHS Trust or is part of mandatory training or accreditation. Any event that is essential for staff to fulfil the requirements of their job cannot be funded by the SHC.
  • The SHC will consider claims for conference or course registration fees, core travel expenses and accommodation expenses. Exam fees do not qualify for funding. For further information on our funding criteria and what expenses are eligible for funding, please read the full T&Cs. The SHC accepts no responsibility for any costs you incur that do not meet our funding criteria.
  • The SHC has a duty to make sure that charity funds are used in the best way possible. It is therefore your responsibility to plan and budget carefully and seek out the most cost-effective options – please read the full T&Cs for further information.
  • Incomplete or incorrect application forms will not be considered. Please make sure you submit the correct form for the NHS Trust you work for (UHS or ESHT). To avoid any delays or issues, please include as many details as possible.
  • Reimbursement can only be processed AFTER you have attended the event – this is because we require valid receipts / invoices plus evidence of attendance. Please note that evidence must be submitted within 6 months of the date it was awarded.

Before proceeding with your application please read the full T&Cs and the step-to-step guide on how the bursary process works
