Charlotte’s heart journey began in January 2023 when an unexpected collapse led to the diagnosis of a heart condition. Charlotte needed open heart surgery and had her operation at RSCH in May 2024. After completing the cardiac rehabilitation programme at Eastbourne hospital, she now has the confidence and knowledge to lead a heart healthy life as she continues her recovery.
Charlotte wanted to celebrate the first anniversary of her surgery and show off her ‘proud journey scar’. She also wanted to thank her parents and everyone who has supported her during her heart journey. She decided to put on a show in her local community, so she could celebrate with all her friends and family.
Charlotte is a dedicated supporter and volunteer of the SHC and decided to use the event as a fundraiser for the SHC:
“I want to make a difference to other cardiac patients in a similar situation to myself, and I know the charity will benefit other patients.”
Charlotte performed songs that resonated with her journey. This included ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman – a powerful song that she feels expresses how she feels about her condition and recovery – and ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, which she was delighted to sing with her dad and was chosen due to the poignant lyrics “dreams really do come true”.
Charlotte was supported by local children’s community singing group, The Rising Stars. The group is run by Bri, who was keen to be involved, especially as her son has a heart condition. All the young performers were amazing, and Charlotte really enjoyed singing with them – they hope to do future events together.
The event was a big success, with over 100 people attending. We are delighted to announce that a total of £2,227.34 was raised for the SHC – which is absolutely fantastic! We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to Charlotte for organising such a lovely evening and for her amazing fundraising efforts (which totally smashed her fundraising target!).
The SHC and Charlotte would like to thank everyone for their generous donations. Thanks also go to Frances and the staff at the Seaford and District Constitutional Club for hosting the event, and to Bri and all The Rising Stars singers and their families for the amazing support.
