Criteria for Successful grant applications to the Sussex Heart Charity

  1. The underlying principle of the Sussex Heart Charity is to improve the quality of life of cardiac patients and their families.
  2. The Sussex Heart Charity is unable to supply equipment or services which are the statutory responsibility of the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust to provide.
  3. Within the community, the Sussex Heart Charity is not able to supply equipment or services which are the statutory responsibility of the Primary Care Trust to provide
  4. All requests for equipment, facilities or services, must be for additional provision and not for the replacement of existing equipment, facilities or services.
  5. In respect of equipment grants, the applicant is responsible for the ongoing costs of servicing and maintenance of the equipment.
  6. The grant application must show that it satisfies the underlying principle of improving the quality of life of cardiac patients and their families.
  7. Retrospective claims will not be considered.
  8. Incomplete forms will not be considered.
  9. Applications need to be submitted with the appropriate information, and monies only paid retrospectively upon submission of appropriate receipts.
  10. With respect to education conference bursaries, a ceiling of £300.00 per person in any academic year is allowed. Therefore several applications may be made in any given academic year, but only to a total of £300.00.
  11. Examination fees do not qualify for a grant.
  12. Education and conference bursaries require the counter-signature of your line manager.
  13. There are named bursaries for other larger requests and these are:
    • The Equipment Bursary
    • The Service Bursary
    • The Research Bursary
    • The Small Study Bursary
    These will be considered during a meeting of Directors of the Sussex Heart Charity, and awards are made annually
  14. Grant application meetings are held bi-monthly.
  15. All successful grants must be claimed within six months from the date the grant is awarded. After six months have elapsed, the grant will be withdrawn and a new application then becomes necessary
